Patient FAQs

Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Surgery

What is the recovery time for a Laparoscopic Gallbladder removal?
Because laparoscopic surgery utilizes tiny keyhole incisions, recovery is much faster than traditional open surgery. Most patients are discharged within 24 hours of the procedure and can resume light desk work and normal walking within 3 to 5 days. Heavy lifting should be avoided for a few weeks.
Will I have a large scar after a hernia operation?
If the hernia is repaired laparoscopically, you will only have 3 to 4 tiny marks (about half an inch each) that fade significantly over time. However, if you have a massive or highly complex recurrent hernia that requires an "open" abdominal wall reconstruction, the incision will be larger, but Dr. Mukherjee uses advanced cosmetic closure techniques to minimize the scar.
Are keyhole surgeries performed under local or general anesthesia?
Laparoscopic surgeries are performed under general anesthesia. You will be completely asleep and feel absolutely no pain during the procedure.

Laser Proctology (Piles, Fistula, Fissure)

Is laser piles surgery really painless?
Compared to traditional open surgery, yes. The Laser Hemorrhoidoplasty (LHP) technique does not involve cutting away tissue with a scalpel. Instead, a laser fiber shrinks the piles from the inside. This means no large open wounds, no stitches, and significantly less post-operative pain, allowing for same-day discharge.
Will my anal fistula heal without surgery?
No. An anal fistula is an abnormal tunnel connecting an infected gland inside the anus to the skin outside. It will not close on its own and requires surgical intervention. Dr. Mukherjee uses the advanced FiLaC (Fistula-tract Laser Closure) method to seal the tunnel without damaging your sphincter muscles, ensuring zero risk of incontinence.
What is EPSiT for Pilonidal Sinus?
EPSiT (Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment) is a revolutionary minimally invasive procedure for tailbone cysts. Instead of cutting out a massive chunk of flesh and packing the wound for months, Dr. Mukherjee uses a tiny camera and laser to clean and seal the infected sinus tract from the inside.

General Surgery & Trauma Care

What should I do if I suspect an intestinal obstruction or perforated ulcer?
These are life-threatening medical emergencies. If you experience sudden, rigid, excruciating abdominal pain, inability to pass gas, or projectile vomiting, do not eat or drink anything and proceed to our 24/7 casualty ward at New Panacea Hospital immediately. Time is critical.
How do you manage a diabetic foot ulcer to prevent amputation?
The goal is always limb salvage. We use aggressive surgical debridement (removing dead tissue) to control the infection and promote blood flow. However, if gangrene has set in and threatens your life, Dr. Mukherjee will perform a precise, life-saving amputation to halt the spread of the infection.
